Norman Rockwell Retrospective Poster
I’ve always admired how Norman Rockwell captures everyday moments in an idealized, nostalgic way that feels warm and sentimental. “After the Prom” is one of my favourites—a wholesome scene of a young couple being happy at a dingy truck stop. I imagined their story continuing, with the couple returning as their older selves to reminisce. In my own work, I wanted to capture that same atmosphere that Rockwell created– warm, fuzzy and emotional.

This was inspired by the analogy said by the main protagonist, and it goes that love is possessed, and letters act like exorcisms. The broken lock signifies how the box was broken into by her sneaky little sister, who sent the letters out without her permission. Siblings, I tell you...
First Year Highlights
One of the biggest highlights of my first year was being surrounded by a group that’s not only incredibly talented but also kind and uplifting. No matter how much preparation, I, like many others, sometimes feel self-doubt out of fear of making something “bad.” But my classmates are super encouraging. On top of that, Elyssa and Nancy Wu’s advice in term 1 to just keep sketching even if it’s not perfect really stuck with me and carried me through the year.
Another highlight was our illustration class group critiques. I found the feedback on my own work super valuable, but I also really enjoyed listening to others' critiques and offering my own. Hearing different perspectives helped open up new ways of thinking—I learned a lot about illustration composition that way. There were so many moments when someone shared a thought, and it just clicked—I’d think, “Wow, why didn’t I think of that?”
Volunteering for the Adobe cafe was a fun opportunity for me to connect with the professional design community and my peers from all years outside of the classroom. It was refreshing to hear everyone’s unique journey and see what brought us all to the same creative space.
