"One Love, One Kiss" (Impossible Interview - Bob Marley & Gene Simmons)
For IDES132, I wanted to visualize connections between two musicians who are not typically associated with one another. They are sitting under a tree while struggling to attempt to play eachother's guitars. There is a heart carved into the tree between them to symbolize both of their motifs related to love: Bob Marley's popular song "One Love," and Gene Simmons' alias - Kiss.
The Joy Luck Club (Conceptual Movie Poster)
(IDES142) The first major Hollywood film to feature an predominantly asian cast, The Joy Luck Club is a film about generational trauma and the complex relationships of mothers and daughters. The concept of my poster was inspired by a quote from the film: "All of us are like stairs, one step after another, going up, going down, but always going the same way."
First Year Highlights
The field trips! Specifically the trip to Londsdale for photography, and the trip downtown for creative thinking. I enjoyed spending time off campus with my peers while still learning.
I enjoyed the group critiques across all classes. I found it both valuable and exciting and learned so much from them. It was always so cool to see how everyone interpreted projects in their own styles.
I also enjoyed the classroom atmosphere throughout the year. It was really nice to have a consistent "safe space." The room and the people within it have made the class a really comfortable environment to work and learn in.
