Many congratulations to Harlen Betrand (IDEA Grad 2023) for winning the 2021 GDC Foundation Cheryl Lynn Rutledge Northern Indigenous Student Award for “SOCAN Annual Report” and “Total Recall” movie poster illustration and design. Harlen is from the Fort Nelson First Nation.

IDEA Grad 2023 wins big at CityStudio North Vancouver HUBBUB #4 with visual information campaigns around Fire Safety and invasive plant species
Congratulations to IDEA School of Design Grad 2023 student groups for CityStudio North Vancouver HUBBUB #4 top honours— first, second and third—in the Audience Selection Awards!
Twenty-three IDEA School of Design second-year students partnered with the North Vancouver City Fire Department (NVCFD) and the City of North Vancouver Engineering, Parks & Environment department to create visual information campaigns around fire safety for young people, and building awareness around invasive plant species in our local parks.

Like the font, Neume Sample Poster (shown above) reflects the contrasting blend of historic imagery inspiration and modernized design forms and layout.

Congratulations to Kathrin Teh (IDEA Grad 2023) for winning Graphis New Talent Annual Silver Award 2021 with 'Gossamer Gin' Packaging Design (shown above). Graphis is an international bastion of excellence in design and visual imagery.
“Gossamer Gin is a luxury gin brand, focused on introducing the fascinating ingredients present in the drink to the masses. Their juniper — sourced from the Himalayas — and the plethora of unique, exotic ingredients they use, set them apart from the rest. They have several bottles, each focused on a different region of the world, which feature botanicals from the highlighted region. This way, you can experience gin with ingredients from regions across Asia, Europe, South America, etc.” writes Kathrin.

Quakeable simplifies the process of creating an emergency plan to help people stay safe and connected during an earthquake. The user-friendly format delivers essential information in an easily-digestible format to support safe decision-making and appropriate action in the event of an earthquake.

Aidan Zecchel (IDEA Grad 2021) wins 2020 Jim Rimmer Scholarship with 'Level the Playing Field', a youth homelessness awareness campaign
Congratulations to Aidan Zecchel (IDEA Grad 2021) for winning the 2020 Jim Rimmer Scholarship with 'Level the Playing Field', a campaign aimed to raise awareness around the challenges of youth homelessness. Aidan is currently completing his studies at IDEA School of Design at Capilano University.
This campaign uses sports metaphors in portraying homeless youth as society's underdogs. The underdog is a relatable character archetype for most in one way or another, positioning them as such helps to engage viewer empathy.

Atrin Yazdani-Biuki (IDEA Grad 2022) wins 2020 ADCC Student Competition Bronze Award in Graphic Design with 'Mountain Dew Flavours'
Congratulations to Atrin Yazdani-Biuki (IDEA Grad 2022) for winning 2020 ADCC Student Competition Silver Award in Graphic Design with 'Mountain Dew Flavours'.
Atrin received two additional awards for this project in addition to the ADCC award: RGD Student Awards 2020 — Zulu Alpha Kilo Award for Advertising Design Honourable Mention and RGD Student Awards 2020 — Haft2 Award of Colour Honourable Mention.
Keeping in line with Mountain Dew’s high sugar and caffeine content, various new flavours are introduced while maintaining the brand’s exhilarating and often bizarre personality.

ARCH is an international conference that brings archaeology into the 21st century. The goal was to showcase the discipline as an exciting, adapting, modern field — and to change perceptions of it as an ‘outdated career’ to inspire the next generation of workers.

Congratulations to Danica Koller (IDEA Grad 2020) for winning the 2020 RGD Zync Award of Excellence for Concept Development with ‘Ellie’ Alzheimer's App. Danica's project also gained RGD's Awards Of Specialty BOLD Awards for Accessible Design Honourable Mention.
Ellie assists people living with Alzheimer’s disease, reassures caregivers, makes daily tasks easier, and helps identify behavioural and mental patterns.

Congratulations to Haluka Yagi (IDEA Grad 2021) for winning ADCC Student Competition Finalist in Graphic Design with 'Roundabout Hostel'.
Roundabout, a hostel in downtown Vancouver, encourages visitors to come as travellers and leave as Vancouverites by connecting them to local spots and people. The brand colours entail Glassy Aqua of downtown Vancouver's high-rises, Coastal Navy reflecting the ocean, and Canadian Red embodying the locals' warm hearts.
