Time Travel Through Style: Cyborg

This is a self-portrait I created for my DSGN 122 assignment, depicting myself as a cyborg. I experimented with a more realistic style—something I don’t usually attempt in my personal work—and incorporated neon lighting effects using light. I’m quite happy with how it turned out. I like the piece because the concept feels original, and it also has a slightly grotesque quality in certain aspects, which I find appealing.

No Other Choice

This is a reinterpretation illustration of the film No Choice, created for my IDES 132 movie capture illustration project. The story follows a man who is the head of a household with a son and a daughter. After working for a paper company for 20 years, he is suddenly laid off, and to secure a position at another paper company, he begins killing other strong job candidates.

I based this piece on one of the film’s most iconic and impactful scenes, where he attempts to drop a flowerpot onto a candidate’s head. To express the sense of responsibility and guilt he carries internally, I depicted a bonsai tree—often seen in Korea as a symbol of a patriarch’s burden—taking root on his shoulder. On top of the tree are figures of his son, daughter, and wife, as well as the bodies of the two other candidates he has killed.
