4th-year students (IDEA Grad 2020) begin two-month practicums across Vancouver today!
IDEA Grad20 are ready for practicum lift-off! 4th-year practicums starts Monday, February 24, 2020! The final course in our four-year degree program is an eight-week full-time placement in a local company.
We hope some of these practicums will end in job offers. We expect that all placements will give our students' résumés a boost and provide some excellent professional references. Shown above: IDEA Grad 2020.

For first-year student, Jamie Kusack, life at Capilano University’s IDEA School of Design has really helped her feel invigorated about her work and excited to create more art. She found the oil paint self-portrait assignment (shown above) incredibly daunting but absolutely fell in love with the medium after the first day using it.

Time-travelling First-year Students (IDEA Grad 2023) Make their own Design History Book
Every Fall IDEA School of Design at Capilano University welcomes a new crop of first-years. As well as learning about creative thinking techniques, drawing and painting skills, and basic design principles, the students learn about the origins of communication design and illustration. In our four first-year survey classes they learn about how mankind went from verbal storytelling and cave paintings to Tweeting and Snapchat.

Snag: A Live Painting Raffle featuring IDEA students Talia Rouck, John Pachkowsky & Valeriya Kim
Snag happens every second Tuesday at The American pub and cafe in Vancouver, run by Ian Kaart (IDEA Grad 2019) and his business partner Alejandro. Snag brings together IDEA School of Design students both past and present for a creative social. Emily Carr students also participated in this event.
Cambodia + Vietnam Study Abroad Experience by Rachel Wong (IDEA Grad 2021) Capilano University
Rachel Wong (IDEA Grad 2021) went on a two-week field school exchange through Capilano's study abroad program to Vietnam and Cambodia. It wasn't one of the design-focused study abroad programs that IDEA provides (Germany/Japan), but a tourism-focused one open to the entire university.
“It was truly a life-changing experience like no other and I would highly recommend anyone who has the opportunity to apply for this field school.” she writes.
