This fall, Continuing Studies at Capilano University offers two courses that comprise The Portfolio Advantage: Drawing and Design Basics I and Life Drawing.

2015 IDEA graduate Cristian Fowlie just snagged a Merit (for his illustration, “New Energy” and three Honourable Mentions in the international student competition for 3x3: The Magazine of Contemporary Illustration.

IDEA students Jeremy Michael, Jessica Ngo, and Tierney Milne scored First, Second and Third Place respectively in the Illustration category of CAPIC's Rodeo7 Contest this spring.

Grad 2015 promises to be a great show, with some amazing design work and more than our usual number of illustration grads. Show runs April 13 - 17, 2015 at Harbour Centre in Vancouver.

IDEA students were lucky to be invited to see the incredibly talented Ola Volo, a Canadian illustrator from Kazakhstan, talk about her work which helps to shape and beautify outdoor spaces in Vancouver.

Grad 2015 students Lilian Leung and Aimée Grimes each won a $1,000 Jim Rimmer Scholarship, open to all design students in British Columbia, Canada.

Caitlyn says Capilano University's IDEA School of Design program "is a good reflector of how the industry actually works. The work is very deadline driven, so it’s important that students enjoy those kinds of challenges."

Nowadays, Pamela is a designer at Rethink, one of Vancouver’s top advertising agencies while Christina Paone has founded and grown her own design consultancy Paone Creative.

This past summer, IDEA instructor and established painter-illustrator Jeff Burgess mentored 4 IDEA students in his studio: on Mondays, Lilian Leung and Brendan Walsh, and on Thursdays Jeremy Browns and Tony Yu.

IDEA grad Ksenia Kozhevnikovawas honoured with a Distinguished Merit Award for her entry, “Snake Princess” as well as two Awards of Merit and an Honourable Mention.

Graphic designer extraordinaire, Massimo Vignelli, whose most acclaimed work includes the 1972 New York subway map and the original American Airlines logo, died this week at age 83. His influence will live on.
