Bachelor of Design Grad 2029: Summer Highlights at CapU’s IDEA School of Design
Meet the Bachelor of Design Grad 2029 class at IDEA School of Design at Capilano University.
What does a future designer do over the summer? For our Bachelor of Design Grad 2029 students at IDEA School of Design, the answer included working in Japan, travelling to Portugal, celebrating birthdays, making art, developing photography and video skills, launching creative projects and finding time to enjoy summer, too.
As they head into another year at IDEA School of Design at Capilano University, we asked our students to share a favourite summer highlight and what they’re looking forward to in the year ahead. Here’s a glimpse at how some of them spent their summer and the creative goals they’re bringing with them into the new school year.
Cristina Williams
Summer Highlights: I spent this summer working on my social media presence, making art, and experimenting with reels for my dream art business, Baby Blue Lab! I learned a lot and made some really cool stuff that I’m excited to expand on. My Instagram handle is @babyblue.lab, if you wanna check out what I’ve been up to!
Looking Forward To: I'm looking forward to finding my stride with work-life balance in 2nd year. My well-being is really important to me. Learning how to manage heavy workloads while maintaining holistic health is a vital life skill for a long and rewarding creative career!

Summer Highlights: I saw Pierce the Veil live and rewatched the entirety of Twin Peaks.
Looking Forward To: I am looking forward to new illustration projects and making memories with my IDEA School of Design friends.

Summer Highlights: Turning 19 and celebrating with my family and best friends!!

Summer Highlights: My best summer memory: WORKING IN JAPAN AS A PHOTOGRAPHER ALL SUMMER! Literally landed back on September 8th. Was a blast, and so very, very hot and muggy! Am going again soon!
Looking Forward To: I am looking forward to taking all my design knowledge into laying the foundations of my own production company for the future!

Summer Highlights: My summer kept me busy; I improved my skills, BUT! remembered to touch grass from time to time. Looking forward to more design this year.
Looking Forward To: I’m looking forward to experiencing new things, learning more about design, and continuing to figure out what kind of designer I want to become. Most of all, I’m excited to make new memories and share them with the wonderful people around me.

Summer Highlights: I had an amazing honeymoon in Portugal! We spent almost three weeks on the Algarve. I also worked on getting my website up and running so I can sell art prints!

Summer Highlights: During the summer, I travelled to the Okanagan and worked on making YouTube videos with my friends.
