Capilano University’s IDEA School of Design Celebrates 2025 Graduates
Held last April at the Vancouver Playhouse, Capilano University’s IDEA School of Design 2025 Graduate Showcase celebrated the creativity, innovation, and industry readiness of students from the Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication and the first-ever graduating cohort of the Interaction Design Diploma. The showcase’s brand identity and website, designed by alumni Henry Slaughter and Aleks Jones and developed by CSPixel Foundry, set the stage for an immersive exhibition of work spanning branding, illustration, UX/UI, print, packaging, concept art, and advertising.
Graduates achieved remarkable recognition, earning numerous provincial, national, and international awards, including honours from RGD, Applied Arts, CAPIC, nwHacks, and the Salazar Awards. Students won top accolades in areas ranging from accessible design and interactive innovation to illustration and concept development.
The school expressed gratitude to more than fifty industry partners and agencies, including Lululemon, Electronic Arts, and Cossette, whose support made the showcase possible.
As the culmination of years of study, the event launched graduates into dynamic careers as graphic designers, illustrators, UX/UI designers, art directors, brand and packaging designers, concept artists, and more—ready to shape the future of creative industries.

“For the first time in IDEA history, our grad show took place at the historic Vancouver Playhouse. The grad show is very much a labour of love for IDEA faculty, particularly John Lau and Dominique Walker. This year, the Bachelor of Design students showed off their creative chops in their reels and at their tables, showcasing their work in Branding, Illustration, and Design to industry, their instructors, and, of course, their friends and family.
The evening kicked off with heartfelt words from BDes Co-coordinators Christina Lee Kim Koon, and Chelsea Bell Eady, as well as IxD Co-coordinator Jai Dwai.
The Grads of 2025 started their degrees during Covid lockdown, and marked the first-ever double cohort. This group of graduates demonstrated resilience, rapid growth, and a knack for winning awards for their student and professional work. It is fitting that their graduation was marked by a packed house of Vancouver’s creative industry, and IDEA instructors, who came to celebrate this incredible milestone.”
