“Impossible Interview: Mitski and Sappho, Share Their Artistry”

In this piece, I had to create an interaction between two famous people that would never meet. I chose Mitski as my first pick, an artist I love. I tried thinking of a person whom is unexpected yet had a reason to interact with Mitski in the first place; so I chose Sappho, a greek poet. A common theme in this project is the person from the past is depicted in the future. However, I decided I would take a current artist such as Mitski to the Greek Island of Lesbos — where Sappho resided. I adorned both in women’s greek clothing; I thought that rendering intricate drapery would be a fun challenge. The two subjects are sharing their form of artistry, speaking on the same subjects yet in different forms of art. Mitski, a singer, and Sappho, a poet.

“Gleep’s Great Escape” the comic

For this piece, we were given prompts and a theme to include in a comic; I had to include a rubber duck, spaceship, and cactus. The theme is "mystery". My process was creating the alien cat character and creating a backstory for it. Then, I created an isolated situation filled with shenanigans! I originally created a total of 17 panels and narrowed it down to 9, which helped with workload. It was time-consuming creating panels but an experience i would love to recreate.

First Year Highlights

I really enjoyed the Halloween party organized by the students of this program. It was great to meet the years above me and getting insight on what to expect further on. It was also a nice way to relax and socialize during classes.

I enjoyed excercises my professor Sepideh provided us every class. It was all creative and unique from my classes. I enjoyed myself and genuinely felt like I was “getting in touch with my creative side.”

I loved going into Andrew’s drawing class; I always knew starting off my Wednesdays with him would be a relaxing break in the middle of classes. The class environment was relaxing and I could chat alongside my peers while drawing -- the perfect day!
